Shavlik is pleased to announce that NetChk Protect 7.8 is now available for download.  There has been a tremendous buzz in our community and beyond regarding some of the features we are releasing in NetChk Protect 7.8.  The biggest is the feature set around VMware.  If you are a VMware user and rely on VUM this will be something you would want to take a look at.  VUM is moving away from Guest OS and application patching.  That means you will need something to replace this functionality.

VM Enhancements

• Patching VMware templates
• Disable networking while deploying to offline virtual machines
• Optional pre-deployment and post-deployment snapshots
• Deploy to a machine in a different state than was scanned
• Scheduled deployments to offline virtual machines
• New Deployment Template for Hosted VM Deployments

Patch Deployment Enhancements

• Deploy patches contained within archive files
• Scripted Patch Detection
• Uninstall multiple patches in a single deployment

Agent Enhancements

• Deploy service packs to agents
• Checkpoint/restart downloads of agent patches and service packs

Database Maintenance Feature

• Purge old data.
• Run Backups on a regular basis.
• Reindex the DB.

VIPRE 4.0 SDK Integration

• Engine Performance enhancements
• Includes VIPRE bug fixes and enhancements
• “Limit AP Scanning to only high risk file types (High Performance)” added to Agent Policy, AP tab, File Access.

Now major features are all fine and good, but the minor features in this release have a lot of existing customers talking.  Nearly as many feature requests from our customers were closed out in the minor feature list in this release as the major features.

Minor Features

• Left-Nav modifications and groupings changes
• Multi Machine Properties Edit from MV and SV, Patch Drive Path, Custom 1, 2, 3 tags
• New option to suppress prompts; Download size dialog now has a check box to Warn Next Time, turn back on through tools options
• Machines Not Scanned added to Auto Email list
